 TF United Rumble and Frenzy
« Thread Started on Apr 11, 2011, 11:33pm »

One trend that was noticed with he Generations/RTS line was that they always preceded the United line. When Rumble and Frenzy were released I was hoping to grab these first in the Hasbro line but since the appearance of DOTM toys (which meant Wheeljack and co would be the last releases for now) and the apparent rumor that these two knuckleheads would be cancelled in the US I bit the bullet and grabbed these two right away.

Packaging:

I wasn't sure if these two were supposed to be released as separate scouts in the Hasbro line but Tak/Tom did us a favor and packaged Rumble and Frenzy together so less hassle ont he hunting part.

Back part has the typical character bio and tech specs you find in the United packaging.

Again to add to the ever popular name confusion between these two, TF United packaging has Rumble labelled as the black and red one while Frenzy is Blue just like how they were often mislabeled in the 80's.

Alt Mode:

Rumble and Frenzy transform into tanks which are a far cry from their well known incarnations as cassette tapes. Other incarnations had them closely related to communications/media devices (ie. Music Label had them as earphones) so seeing these two as tanks took some getting used to.

Robot Mode:

Rumble and Frenzy are your typical scout class sized robots. Lot's of homages starting from the well known cassette chest design all the way to the double riffle attachments.

One of the reasons why these two are a must buy is this is the first time they emphasized on their trademark pile drivers (I don't know if the perfect effect one's came with pile driver features.). Just like Lugnut these are also spring activated. Sadly also like Lugnut, the spring mechanism can be a bit sensitive. :P Still, a small price to pay since the gimmick suits these two just perfectly.

Like the vintage toy you can also attach the riffle to the side of the arms. Love the head sculpt on these two!

Photo op with their "master":

Rumble, Frenzy...EJECT!!!

Was meaning to take pics with Ravage but got too lazy. :P Here's hoping they do an updated version of Lazerbeak.

Overall Thoughts:

Another must have in my book. I loved Rumble's character and how he had this from the Bronx type of persona. My only complaint were the sensitivity of the spring loaded mechanisms for the pile drivers but it's tolerable.
Size wise these two are smaller than your normal scouts but it's not a problem since these two are supposed to be small.. If they were any bigger then it would be another case of misproportioned characters..Also the price tag kinda turned me off since 2 scouts are basically equal to one deluxe then the price should be equivalent or slightly higher than a deluxe TF United fig. The going rate for this set is like buying a voyager... [image]
Despite these I still recommend this set. The most decent soundwave that you could pair with these two is the Music Label one so here's hoping their master gets the "classics: treatment as well. :)

^^ very nice sir Gao, i also hope Hasbro release them since the United version is too expensive for my taste (for a couple of Scouts = Voyager size figure). by the way, which Soundwave version would look good with these 2? aside from the MP3 version of course.

agree with Chok. since those lil' Decepticon punks have vehicle alt modes, i say CYB VOY - SoundWave suits them the best. Mini-Con LaserBeak also included.

great and early review JP! the sensitive spring mechanism was mentioned in various forums and i think that's a small price to pay for the given gimmick.

another driving force to get this duo (aside from the announcement that these two won't see distribution for now to give way to the movie assortments) is the fact that the guns/turrets from the reveal the shield line are painted gold. i'd rather have united's silver.

interesting note: in RTS, the blue bot is designated as "demolition rumble"...

again, great review jp! thanks for sharing! the united version is a definitive purchase for me, personally. i'd also agree with gao here. saves me the hassle of tracking them both down. if only the price wasn't so steep...

Interesting.

Do the turrets come off? Since if you remove them, they basically look like rectangular shapes.

With some creative detailing they can probably be made to look like stylized homages to the original design (tapes).

yes the turrets do come off. they can attach to the top of the tank or by the bars adjacent to the hands by way of the clip system.

hamutaro, I think you are referring to the guns on the turret.

The turret is the weapon mount on the tank. It allows the gun to move around. It's the rotating part on top of the tank's hull:
