| | OPTIMUS PRIME: FIST OF CYBERTRON « Thread Started on Sept 20, 2012, 2:36pm » | |
I love cybertronian modes. When the FOC deluxes were first announced, I was initially very excited to get Shockwave and maybe Jazz. The Botcon previews looked awesome, and the toys showed much promise. I’ve never been a (red) prime collector, so I automatically wrote off FOC Prime initially.
When they were released, it was a different story. The actual toys looked really bad and cheap. I knew they were going to be smaller, but seeing them in person was the dealbreaker for me. My first instincts were to pass on the line altogether.
I am freaking glad that I decided to pick this guy up as an impulse buy. This toy just blew me away. (credit goes to Rohml for piquing my curiosity hehe, thanks man!)
On to the review:
FALL OF CYBERTRON DELUXE CLASS OPTIMUS PRIME
![[image] [image]](http://i289.photobucket.com/albums/ll230/sulluman/FOC%20PRAHM/th_BOT-head_zps15bee94e.jpg) IMPORTANT NOTE: This toy has been customized. I got excited and did extensive panel lining on this toy before I reviewed it. Please take note that the original DOES NOT have those fine black lines.
ALT MODE:
![[image] [image]](http://i289.photobucket.com/albums/ll230/sulluman/FOC%20PRAHM/th_ALT-aa_zps6518a178.jpg) Prime is a tough looking cybertronian truck. Where the WFC Prime was nicely streamlined, this iteration of Prime gives us a nice chunk of truck.
![[image] [image]](http://i289.photobucket.com/albums/ll230/sulluman/FOC%20PRAHM/th_ALT-front_zps159d2fe6.jpg) ![[image] [image]](http://i289.photobucket.com/albums/ll230/sulluman/FOC%20PRAHM/th_ALT-side_zpsa68db010.jpg) ![[image] [image]](http://i289.photobucket.com/albums/ll230/sulluman/FOC%20PRAHM/th_ALT-rear_zps83deac34.jpg) As you can see from the different angles, it’s a pretty short truck. It looks like a big beefy cab on wheels with not much of a truck bed area to speak of. This makes him look like more of an armored vehicle. ![[image] [image]](http://i289.photobucket.com/albums/ll230/sulluman/FOC%20PRAHM/th_ALT-underchassis_zps9475bf45.jpg) He rolls along nicely enough, but unless his transformation is aligned perfectly, the middle set of wheels tends to not sit flat. The underside shows an acceptable amount of robot kibble.
![[image] [image]](http://i289.photobucket.com/albums/ll230/sulluman/FOC%20PRAHM/th_ALT-armedside_zps42b6e771.jpg) ![[image] [image]](http://i289.photobucket.com/albums/ll230/sulluman/FOC%20PRAHM/th_ALT-armed_zps2e1cfb90.jpg) The gun stores neatly in Alt-mode and pegs firmly onto the rear of the truck, acting as a vehicle mode weapon.
TRANSFORMATION:
Transforming him to Robot mode is simple and intuitive, yet fun. It’s not as sturdy as I would like; but don’t worry; there are no parts that flop around unnecessarily.
BOT MODE:
In robot mode, Prime stands as tall as your average new deluxe. Which is to say around 20% smaller than an older deluxe, and around 20% taller than a scout class transformer.
![[image] [image]](http://i289.photobucket.com/albums/ll230/sulluman/FOC%20PRAHM/th_BOT-side_zps2b2f9a19.jpg) ![[image] [image]](http://i289.photobucket.com/albums/ll230/sulluman/FOC%20PRAHM/th_BOT-rear_zpscf81408e.jpg) ![[image] [image]](http://i289.photobucket.com/albums/ll230/sulluman/FOC%20PRAHM/th_BOT-front_zpsbad81dd2.jpg) He is stockier than his previous WFC incarnation and looks more like a bruiser in this regard. He looks like he can take the hits and deliver them.
The mold delivers 100% for me. He has the prerequisite truck front chest, stomach grille, faceplate, blue optics, and shoulder stacks. Everything that makes a Prime a Prime is complete in this package. He looks good from all angles, and he can store his gun on a peg on his back when not in use.
![[image] [image]](http://i289.photobucket.com/albums/ll230/sulluman/FOC%20PRAHM/th_BOT-head_zps15bee94e.jpg) The facesculpt is very nice, and though it lacks light piping, it gives us a severe, serious looking prime, which is a welcome change from all the recent cartoony versions.
![[image] [image]](http://i289.photobucket.com/albums/ll230/sulluman/FOC%20PRAHM/th_BOT-reardetail_zpsbee650ce.jpg) ![[image] [image]](http://i289.photobucket.com/albums/ll230/sulluman/FOC%20PRAHM/th_BOT-side_zps2b2f9a19.jpg) Mold detail is great, as they even added thrusters to his back. My only problems with this mode are the fake kibble on his torso (he has fake wheels molded on.), and that I don’t like how the gun sits on his back when pegged for storage.
![[image] [image]](http://i289.photobucket.com/albums/ll230/sulluman/FOC%20PRAHM/th_POSE-brandish_zpscf00fc46.jpg) I have him holding the gun differently here. I think initial photos (along with the card and manual) had the gun being held wrong; I like the way he’s holding it in these pictures much better; it strongly resembles his G1 Rifle.
Articulation and poseability is where this toy shines, though:
![[image] [image]](http://i289.photobucket.com/albums/ll230/sulluman/FOC%20PRAHM/th_BalanceB_zps15fb73d0.jpg) ![[image] [image]](http://i289.photobucket.com/albums/ll230/sulluman/FOC%20PRAHM/th_BalanceA_zpsd36eeffd.jpg) The toy has nice, tight joints and can hold many poses very well. The feet are also on tight ball joints and can support the toy well enough with minimal fiddling.
![[image] [image]](http://i289.photobucket.com/albums/ll230/sulluman/FOC%20PRAHM/th_POSE-shakefist_zps3e8b3054.jpg) ![[image] [image]](http://i289.photobucket.com/albums/ll230/sulluman/FOC%20PRAHM/th_POSE-dynamic_zps4f4a6ffb.jpg) ![[image] [image]](http://i289.photobucket.com/albums/ll230/sulluman/FOC%20PRAHM/th_POSE-lungeB_zpscc322d2e.jpg) ![[image] [image]](http://i289.photobucket.com/albums/ll230/sulluman/FOC%20PRAHM/th_POSE-lungeA_zpsacce493d.jpg) ![[image] [image]](http://i289.photobucket.com/albums/ll230/sulluman/FOC%20PRAHM/th_POSE-groundpound_zps019ffe3e.jpg) ![[image] [image]](http://i289.photobucket.com/albums/ll230/sulluman/FOC%20PRAHM/th_POSE-dekwatro_zps0cd97806.jpg) ![[image] [image]](http://i289.photobucket.com/albums/ll230/sulluman/FOC%20PRAHM/th_POSE-dash_zps82e7e6fa.jpg) ![[image] [image]](http://i289.photobucket.com/albums/ll230/sulluman/FOC%20PRAHM/th_POSE-crouch_zpsda25ae62.jpg)
Posing him is very fun. I haven’t had this much fun just posing a toy since I got my first Busou Shinki or Ultra-Poseable Spidey. He can do MANY signature poses very well, and it’s a shame he’s so small, because he would look GREAT in diorama shots with other transformers.
SUMMARY:
My only real negative complaints are the obvious effects of cost cutting: The decrease in size, and the minimal paint apps. The mold has so much detail that it’s a shame it isn’t highlighted enough. (Which is what drove me to add the panel lines.)
The toy is no engineering marvel. Instead, you get a fun toy that gets better and better the more you fiddle with it. This thing is pretty great finger-candy. I am genuinely looking forward to acquiring all varaints of this mold. (Here's hoping for a black one!)
PROS: Great articulation Great in Alt and Bot mode Fun transformation Highly poseable Great for customization
CONS: Minimal paint detail Small size and scale
If I had to rate him I’d give him a solid 4/5, taking away a point solely for the size/scale issues.

Go out and buy this guy while you can! You won't regret it!
Thanks for reading!

Great review and pics Sluman. Aside from the smaller size and lesser paint apps, the figure is really awesome, pretty much articulated for a deluxe and not too many hollow parts. A sturdy looking figure, and like what you've said, he looks like a bruiser for being a buff bot. Will be waiting for it's Ultra Magnus deco, sadly, it'll only have a sword and no rifle. But that would be a great, a Nemesis Prime deco of FOC Prime with the upcoming magnus' sword.

Nice review bro.
Admittedly I like this toy better than the WFC Prime, maybe because of it's posability and lack of obstructing kibble. I only wish they could spread the shoulders a bit more.

great review sir, you may have saved him from shelfwarming. hehehe. i also loved it when i got him. all them 5mm ports also make him a walking weaponeer, both in bot or altmode. my mechtech tfs are now bereft of their weaponry as foc prime now wield them. hehehe.
sharing some pics, sir sluman. thanks.

@viperhaus:
I havent seen any of the FOC combaticons, but the plastic on this guy is good. It doesn't feel flimsy or brittle, but it's not as thick as plastic from say an ROTF toy.
