EDWARD NORTON SET AS BRUCE BANNER IN THE INCREDIBLE HULK
Marvel’s next take on the Hulk as a big screen property has just landed some major star power. According to Variety Edward (The Illusionist, Fight Club) Norton has signed with Marvel Studios to play Bruce Banner in The Incredible Hulk
The film is slated to be directed by Louis (Transporter 2) Leterrier and distributed by Universal Pictures. Based on a script by Zak Penn, the second Hulk film will be financed and produced by Marvel under its $525 million credit facility the company generated in order to control film adaptations of its characters. The Incredible Hulk is due to start filming this summer in Toronoto, with an opening date of June 13, 2008 already announced.
According to the trade, the new film is a sequel, of sorts to the first Ang Lee-directed movie, and catches up with “Bruce Banner on the run, trying to avoid capture long enough to cure the condition that turns him into a misunderstood green menace.”
While the first Hulk film saw a domestic gross of $132 million, and $245 million worldwide (against a production budget reportedly of $137 million) the movie’s performance was less than expected and weaker than other Marvel movies. By bringing the franchise back towards its “less self-serious and more in line with the comic series and TV show” (as Variety explains it) roots, Marvel is clearly looking towards turning the Hulk into one of its top-producing movie properties.
From Variety:
"Edward Norton is a rare talent and one of the most versatile actors in the business," Marvel Studios production president Kevin Feige said in a statement. "His ability to transform into a particular role makes him the ideal choice to take on the character of Bruce Banner and the Hulk. Edward is perfectly suited to bring one of the most popular and important Marvel icons to the bigscreen in a new and exciting way."
The script for "The Incredible Hulk" was written by Zak Penn, who had a hand in crafting two "X-Men" films, "Fantastic Four" and "Elektra" for Marvel.
"The Incredible Hulk" is being produced by Avi Arad, Gale Anne Hurd and Marvel’s Feige. Jim Van Wyck, David Maisel, Ari Arad and Stan Lee are exec producing.
Marvel's press release for the casting announcement reads:
Two-time Academy Award(R) nominee Edward Norton has signed on to play Bruce Banner, who transforms into Marvel's renowned, larger-than-life Super Hero, The Hulk in Marvel Studios' action-packed, new big screen adaptation of THE INCREDIBLE HULK. The film, which is being directed by Louis Leterrier and distributed by Universal Pictures, is scheduled to smash into theaters on June 13, 2008.
"Edward Norton is a rare talent and one of the most versatile actors in the business. His ability to transform into a particular role makes him the ideal choice to take on the character of Bruce Banner/The Hulk. Edward is perfectly suited to bring one of the most popular and important Marvel icons to the big screen in a new and exciting way," said Kevin Feige, President of Production, Marvel Studios.
Under the visionary direction of Louis Leterrier (Transporter 2, Unleashed), The Incredible Hulk will return to the roots of the long-running comic series and television show.
The story unfolds when the pursuit for The Hulk - the world's most misunderstood, primal force of fury - heats up, finding Bruce Banner on the run attempting to cure his condition before his pursuers capture him.
Edward Norton is widely recognized as one of Hollywood's most multifaceted actors. Having appeared in more than 20 films to date, he has garnered numerous accolades, including two Academy Award nominations. He received a Best Actor nod for his portrayal of a former Neo-Nazi in American History X, as well as Supporting Actor recognition for his role opposite Richard Gere in Primal Fear. He will next been seen in Pride and Glory (co-starring Colin Farrell). Other film credits include: Fight Club, The Painted Veil, The Illusionist, The Score, 25th Hour, Frida, Death to Smoochy, and The People vs. Larry Flynt.
Filming is slated to begin in Toronto this summer.
The Incredible Hulk film is being produced by Avi Arad, Gale Anne Hurd and Kevin Feige and will be executive produced by Jim Van Wyck, David Maisel, Ari Arad and Stan Lee. Mr. Norton is represented by Brian Swardstrom of Endeavor.

i agree with you there bro gaojp...
they should have re-cast Eric Bana as Bruce Banner...but on the other side Edward Norton is a very good Hollywood actor..
i hope Abomination or The Leader would be the villain this time..and they should also at least introduce Bruce's cousin Jennifer Walters aka She-Hulk in the sequel

Would have liked Bana more but he's too big to play 'scrawny' Bruce Banner (though he seems leaner in the trailer of Lucky You). Norton may be a good Banner, I dunno. I just hope they can revive the franchise. Ghost Rider sucked (yes, I finally got to see it), Punisher was just okay (though I wanted it to continue), didn't like Affleck as Daredevil but another actor might do well in the role.

LIV TYLER IS BETTY ROSS
Given the season, here’s the news in a form standardized test-takers will understand – Bruce Banner is to Edward Norton as Betty Ross is to…
Liv Tyler.
According to The Hollywood Reporter, the actress is looking to expand upon her genre chops, and will play Betty Ross in Marvel Studios’ The Incredible Hulk. The casting follows the announcement of Norton in the role of Bruce Banner, made last month, and replaces the two leads form Ang Lee’s 2003 Hulk, which starred Eric Bana and Jennifer Connelly in the roles of Banner and Ross.
Filming on the film, directed by Louis Leterrier is slated to begin this summer in Toronto. Marvel is planning on releaseing the film on June 13th, 2008, with Universal distributing. Avi Arad, Gale Anne Hurd and Kevin Feige are producing, with Jim Van Wyck, David Maisel, Arad and Stan Lee named as executive

Guess who Hulk's new nemesis will be in the upcoming movie:
from comicbookresource:
TIM ROTH TO PLAY ABOMINATION IN "THE INCREDIBLE HULK"
Variety reports that actor Tim Roth is set to play Emil Blonsky, the alter ego of the villain Abomination in next year's “The Incredible Hulk.” Roth is the latest addition to the cast of Marvel Studios and Universal Studios' reinvention of their beleaguered Hulk franchise, following the announcements of Edward Norton as Bruce Banner/the Hulk and Liv Tyler as Betty Ross.
Roth's character Emil Blonsky is a KGB agent who deliberately exposes himself to the same gamma radiation that transformed Bruce Banner into the Hulk. Unlike Banner, Blonsky is unable to return to human form due to the greater quantity of gamma radation to which he was exposed.
“The Incredible Hulk” is directed by Louis Leterrier, the filmmaker behind cult action hits “The Transporter,” “The Transporter 2,” and “Danny the Dog” (known as “Unleashed” in the US). The screenplay is written by Zak Penn (“X-Men: The Last Stand,” “Elektra”). “The Incredible Hulk” is released June 13, 2008.

I dont want the "ME HULK ME SMASH" caveman language...i think Marvel is now making Hulk in line with the Ultimates version of Hulk like in the Ultimate Avengers...Bana is too macho for a banner and Norton is a more of a Ultimates version of Banner....but i think he must need to dye his hair to brown na lang...

Personally I like the caveman speak of the Hulk better than the rational speaking Hulk. I'm currently reading Planet Hulk and World War Hulk and it sounds weird every time the Hulk speaks.

Uhm, Norton's hair IS Brown. Well, light brown. But actors can dye their hair anytime for a role anyway.
I absolutely do not want the Ultimates Hulk to come on screen. That Hulk is a major pervert and maniac! He only became good towards the ending of Ultimates 2 where Banner got control of Hulk to save America from super-terrorists.
The Hulk in the 616 universe is smarter now I believe. He even ruled a planet and saved Silver Surfer from slavery. The way he talks isn't like a caveman anymore as he told Xavier in the World War Hulk X-men series "You're already in hell".
Well, I trust Norton. He's a great actor. I also believe he's part of the writing team on this Hulk, yes?

Yeah, the Hulk is smart now in the comics. But I think they would go back to basics in the new movie. The Hulk will again be a mindless brute because that is how he got popular. And, in the previous movie, the Hulk didn't really talk that much. I would love to hear "HULK SMASH!" or "LEAVE HULK ALONE!" in the new movie.
